BBQ & Brews benefitting the Eastern Shore of VA Habitat for Humanity

February 26, 2022

David Brannon, VP of Land Development for Preserve Communities, and his family have always supported Habitat for Humanity; so when Eastern Shore of VA Habitat for Humanity Board Member and Bay Creek resident Penney Holland approached him to be the Celebrity Dipper for the 2022 Freezin’ for a Reason fundraiser, it was an easy and enthusiastic yes. David wholeheartedly shares in Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Leading up to the event, the James Fisher Memorial Foundation partnered with the Cape Charles Brewing Company and Small’s Smokehouse & Oyster Bar to put on a BBQ & Brews event on February 25. With an incredible turnout of over 250 attendees at the Cape Charles Brewing Company and a $10,000 match by Preserve Homes & Neighborhoods, more than $40,000 was raised for the Eastern Shore of Virginia Habitat for Humanity.

The event featured craft brews and clam chowder by Cape Charles Brewing Company, BBQ by Small’s Smokehouse & Oyster Bar (who will be opening a new restaurant in Cape Charles soon), side dishes by Amy B Catering & Events and live music by the Sonic Ukes and Loaded Goats Gruff. It truly was a community effort!

On the following day, David led 99 dippers as they joyfully charged toward the Chesapeake Bay. Spirits were high and hope was in the air as the Freezin’ for a Reason event raised more than $60,000. We are excited to watch as the Eastern Shore of VA Habitat for Humanity chapter continues to work toward building simple and affordable housing in this community.
